Blackfoot, Idaho is located in Southeastern Idaho between Idaho Falls and Pocatello in Bingham County. It had a population of about 12,400 in 2021. It is known as the “Potato Capital of the World '' for having the largest potato industry in one particular area. What is There to Do in Blackfoot?
As mentioned above, the Idaho Potato museum is located within Blackfoot, where you can find information on potatoes, a cafe full of potato-based items, the largest potato chip, and interactive items for the younger crowds that come through. Each year Labor Day weekend is kicked off with the start of the Eastern Idaho State fair that is held at the fairgrounds. There you will find 4-H animals, lots of food, performances, concerts, and rodeos. It is a good time that runs for a whole week to ensure that everyone has a chance to come. If crowds aren’t for you, the largest butterfly house in Idaho is just west of Blackfoot and is open seasonally, and it’s called Butterfly Haven.
To get out of the house anytime the weather is good, there is the Blackfoot Greenbelt. This is a 6.5-mile path that goes along the snake river for a scenic view. One of the starting points for the Greenbelt is at Jensen Grove Park which has a skate park, a playground, disc golf, basketball courts, and picnic tables for eating. Toward the north part of the Greenbelt is the Blackfoot Golf Course which is one of the best-rated municipal golf courses.
